Spring Cleaning

Dear friends, watchers and visitors,

in my previous journal I stated that my camera's sensor was in need of cleaning after over 3 years of using it. After putting it off for so long I finally did that today. Since a picture is worth a thousands words, I am going to let the following images speak for themselves (keep in mind that they have already been inverted vertically, so this is what the sensor actually looked like rather than the dust location on a picture):

Even though there is still a bit of dust left on one side, there majority of the image including the center is now dust-free. Which is pretty much all I can ask for... well, that and not breaking the camera in the process (which I still *almost* did, silly me! ^^;)

If you haven't ever cleaned your own DSLR sensor and are interested in doing so, I highly recommend this website. It was created by professionals based on their own experiences as well as various bits of information they could find on the net. Keep in mind, though, that cleaning the camera sensor is something that should only ever be done on a per-need basis, and not something you'd do on a regular basis just 'cause.

For the cleaning itself I used this set here. It contains the essential tools for cleaning the sensor, and all of these are tried and reliable (which not all products offered for this purpose are). I did not get a sensor loupe, as it doesn't beat the clarity offered by an actual test photo.

In any case, I'm glad this is done - for now. Here's to the next months and years without a cleaning! :D
