Male Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs, Buchfink)
This little chaffinch was pattering through the snow and looking for something to eat. By the looks of it I'd say he found something!
An interesting sidenote about chaffinches, by the way: They seem to work as a kind of scouts for other birds, in a way at least. These days we usually get great, blue and long-tailed tits as well as sparrows, siskins and blackbirds in the backyard. However, whenever I spot chaffinches (on the ground, especially), other, not as common birds join in. These vary from day to day, but so far my observations in the past several months have confirmed that the appearance of chaffinches *always* means that rare 'visitors' are around as well.
