Great shot! I like it because it's an unusual pose for a woodpecker. I often see these in my garden, but they rarely come close enough for a good shot!
I took a lot of pictures of it, but I agree - the pose is definitely what makes this one special. It was kind of funny, because when the woodpecker first turned around and started to lean forward I took the first picture, but I was surprised to see he then extended his neck even further.
Yep, it can be hard to get a got shot of them. Not only do they climb around like crazy (though still much less than a nuthatch), but they tend to keep close to the trunk as well. Sometimes it seems next to impossible to get a free, unobstructed shot!
I also hope to be able to take a shot of a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopus minor) soon. It was surprising to see one close to our livingroom window this morning, I've never seen one of those small ones (after all they're only half as big as the greater ones) here before. Sadly it was gone by the time I went outside.

I've never seen one before, but then again I'm not sure if you get the, I. Scotland...
